A new Beginning.
The Hall
Dick Carpenter was a putterer. He became our handyman/janitor. Although the leadership of the hall remained firmly in other's hands, It was Dick who was puttering away putting things to right. It was Dick who replaced our rotting front porch steps. It was Dick who fixed our rotting windows in the attic by replacing the missing or broken panes of glass with durable plexi-glass -- a small concession to the times -- for local vandals would throw rocks at any exposed windows. Dick had to rebuild many of the window sashes as many had warped and some had fallen apart. He sealed our attic and drove the birds out and the rain no longer came in through the windows. But that still left the leaking roof
